Diabetes in pediatric age is an increasing condition. Yet, many families of children with diabetes often fear that vaccines could increase autoimmune mediated disorders and also create acute problems in their children. Professor Susanna Esposito points out both the advantages of vaccines and their safety: they do not cause diabetes themselves and can be administered in a safe way. Moreover, children with diabetes present some risk factors during acute infection (as during influenza infection): for this reason it is fundamental for their health to receive their National vaccination schedule and, in addition, to receive influenza vaccination every year.
