Professor Edwards speaks about maternal vaccination, a very exciting new area of research. A number of new vaccines have been used and studied in pregnant women (influenza, RSV, strep vaccine) and pregnant women - if they are immunized - get protection both for them but also the antibody transfers to the baby through the placenta. So, by vaccinating one person you can actually have protection for two.
