Antimicrobials are the most commonly prescribed drugs in any period of life and in childhood they are frequently used even for the treatment of viral infections. In some cases the wrong antibiotics can lead to a bacterial infection. It is important to prescribe the right antibiotic in the first years of life. In this sense antimicrobial stewardship has a proven efficacy in reducing the abuse and misuse of antibiotics. This is the topic of the interview by Professor Susanna Esposito, President WAidid.
