Gregg Gonsalves and Peter Staleypresents present on NEJM an interesting perspective on the similarities in the political reactions to AIDS epidemic of the 80s and the panic over Ebola. In their free access article Panic, Paranoia, and Public Health — The AIDS Epidemic's Lessons for Ebola they suggest to find a middle way between negligence and state-based protocols that impose isolation and quarantine on asymptomatic cases.
