SUMMARY:
All drugs have the potential to cause side effects known as adverse drug reactions (ADRs). These reactions should be differentiated from drug allergies. To report significant drug allergies through the yellow card system as an ADR. Young people with a suspected drug allergy should have a thorough history and examination performed.
Clear documentation surrounding the detail of drug allergy should be made and shared with families and multiprofessionals in discharge letters and referral letters. Referral to specialist services should only be considered in certain circumstances.
